Endeavour Hills Renovation Part 2 (Project No.9)

Family Bathroom | Toilet | Laundry

Following the renovation of the ensuite and walk-in robe in 2024, the next stage of this Endeavour Hills home was to bring the same feeling into the family bathroom, separate toilet and laundry.

The brief was simple: modern farmhouse but with bold impact. Warm, timeless and practical, with enough bold detail to give each space its own personality while still feeling connected to the rooms we had already completed.

The homeowner’s request was to make these spaces feel like they belonged to the same home, carrying the design language of the previous ensuite and WIR renovations through the rest of the wet areas and creating a natural flow from one space to the next.

The Design Direction

Rather than treating each room as a separate project, the design was developed as one cohesive scheme.

Contemporary, neutral tones, timber elements, traditional-inspired details and considered finishes create the farmhouse foundation, while stronger architectural and decorative choices bring the boldness the brief called for.

The aim was never to create spaces that felt overly polished or trend-driven. Modern and Traditional can be beautiful together, if done properly - the focus is always on materials, colours and details that age well and still feel considered years from now.

Warmth was key.

The palette was deliberately kept grounded and earthy, allowing texture and contrast to do the work. Timber, darker accents and textured/patterned finishes soften the harder surfaces of the bathrooms and laundry, while classic forms help keep everything feeling timeless.

Family Bathroom

The family bathroom needed to be practical enough for everyday life while still feeling like a considered part of the home.

The design balances farmhouse character of the bathtub, textured feature tiles and custom vanity, with a more modern aesthetic using contrast and traditional details to create a bathroom that feels substantial without becoming heavy.

Separate Toilet

The separate toilet gave us the opportunity to be a little bolder.

Smaller spaces don’t need to be quiet spaces. In fact, they can be the perfect place to introduce stronger finishes, deeper tones and more personality (We all know our obsession with black!) 

The goal here was to create something that felt connected to the bathroom and the rest of the home, without simply repeating the same design. We used the left over pattern floor tile from the ensuite in phase 1 in this space to connect the 2 different areas. 

Laundry

The laundry was approached with the same philosophy: crisp but hardworking.

A laundry needs to function first, but that doesn’t mean it needs to feel purely utilitarian. The finishes and details were chosen to make the space feel like an extension of the home rather than a room hidden away from it.

Practicality, storage and ease of use were considered alongside the overall light/bright aesthetic, creating a space that works hard without looking like it does - 2 French Doors were used to add more natural light to the back of the house. 

Creating Flow

One of the most important parts of this renovation was continuity - we achieved this through choice of finishes, doors/hardware, shaker profile cabinetry in various colours and plantation shutters. 

The ensuite and WIR had already established a strong design direction within the home, so these spaces needed to feel like a natural continuation rather than a completely new chapter.

By carrying through key elements warmth, earthy tones, timber, contrast, traditional influences and a restrained farmhouse aesthetic, the rooms now speak to one another, they aren’t identical (and they don’t need to be!)

Good interior design isn’t about repeating the same room over and over. It’s about creating a common thread that allows each space to have its own identity while still belonging to the same home.
